Commercial Mailboxes

Secure and Efficient Delivery Solutions: Introducing Our Commercial Mailbox Collection

At MailboxEmpire, we know how important safe and fast mail delivery is for your business, apartment complex or other multi-tenant facility. That’s why we offer various commercial mailboxes, including USPS approved options by Salsbury Industries.

Commercial Mailbox: USPS and Private Delivery

USPS approved commercial mailboxes are approved for USPS delivery and must meet certain requirements. The USPS commercial mailbox requirements dictate what new constructions and major renovations must meet, specifically the STD-4C standards. The USPS must also approve the installation so they will deliver mail since they will install their own lock to retrieve the outgoing mailbox and deposit any incoming mail.

Private delivery commercial mailboxes do not have to meet these standards since the USPS will not deliver to them. They are for internal use such as an office building or university where a non-USPS person will be delivering mail or items. For private delivery you may still have to meet the standards set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). There is no big difference between commercial and private delivery systems that are off the shelf except who installs the lock.

USPS Compliance Guide

Our commercial mailboxes are designed to meet USPS regulations so your mail delivery will be smooth and meet all requirements. Here’s a quick rundown of USPS approval requirements:

  • New Construction and Major Renovations: Require USPS STD-4C compliant mailbox systems, such as Cluster Box Units (CBUs) and 4C Horizontal units.

  • Replacement Applications: 4B Horizontal and Vertical mailboxes are approved for replacement applications only. For Major renovations however you must upgrade to USPS commercial mailboxes that meet USPS STD-4C. Contact your local postmaster before purchase and installation.

  • Arrow Lock Preparation: Approved Cluster or 4C Horizontal units will have the U.S. Postal Carrier install their arrow lock for the master door.

Our Most Common Pre-Approved Mailboxes

Standard USPS Cluster Mailboxes

Cluster Box Units (CBUs) are centralized units of individually locking compartments. They are for centralized outdoor mail delivery and are great for office and apartment complexes, residential subdivisions and commercial buildings. They benefit the post office by allowing a mail carrier to service multiple people at one stop, reducing engine idle time and therefore overall delivery time and emissions. Cluster box units are the preferred mailbox for “greener” neighborhoods across the country.

Regency Decorative Cluster Box Units

Add some style to your property with our Regency Decorative CBUs. These units combine the functionality of standard CBUs with a little flair. Regency mailboxes come in various architectural styles and finishes and add a touch of class to any building’s exterior.

4C Horizontal Mailboxes

4C horizontal mailboxes are for centralized mail delivery. They provide secure and organized mail management for commercial buildings, apartment complexes and multi-family housing units. They can be wall mounted or placed in freestanding enclosures. 4C horizontal mailboxes often also have parcel lockers so larger packages can be delivered securely.

Outdoor Parcel Lockers

With the rise of online shopping package delivery management has become a growing issue. Outdoor Parcel Lockers (OPLs) provide a secure and convenient way to receive and retrieve packages. These weatherproof lockers have individual compartments so you won’t miss a delivery or have your porch stolen.

OPLs are good for any setup that will receive a high volume of packages. They are designed for package delivery only and do not include standard mail delivery.

Mail Boss Locking Mailboxes

Known for their high-security electro-galvanized steel construction Mail Boss Locking mailboxes are virtually indestructible making them great for commercial and residential applications. These mailboxes have anti-pry mechanisms and commercial grade locks for extra security. Mail Boss mailboxes can be mounted in gangs of up to 4 on one post so you don’t need to set multiple posts.

4B+ Horizontal Mailboxes

4B+ Horizontal mailboxes may only be installed as replacement units. They may not be used for new construction or major renovations.

USPS Standard 4C Regulations

USPS Standard 4C regulations govern the design and installation of mailbox systems for new construction and major renovations. These standards require commercial mailbox units to meet the specifications for Cluster Box Units (CBUs) and 4C Horizontal mailboxes which are required for centralized mail delivery in multi-family and commercial properties.

By meeting these regulations mail carriers can access the mailboxes and residents have a safe and secure mail management solution. Meeting USPS 4C standards is crucial for property developers and managers to have smooth mail service and meet federal guidelines. Not meeting these regulations and the post office will not deliver mail to a location.

New Regulations for USPS Approved Mailboxes

To ensure durability and security the new regulations for USPS approved mailboxes include the following minimum requirements and enhancements for both residential and commercial applications:

  • Minimum Size: 12” wide x 15” deep x 3” high

  • Parcel Locker Ratio: Mailbox systems must have a minimum number of parcel lockers that meet a 1:10 parcel locker-to-customer compartment ratio.

  • Enhanced Security: All receptacles must have enhanced security features throughout the design including standardized locks on tenant compartments that can’t be tampered with.

  • Testing: New testing will verify the mailboxes are indoor and outdoor capable and functional and secure in all environments.

  • ADA Compliance: All designs must meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards so users can access the mailboxes. We’re committed to accessibility and security.

Centralized Mail Delivery Options:

  • Standard-4C Compliant Front-Loading Mailboxes: 4C horizontal mailboxes are a convenient and secure solution for indoor and outdoor installation. Great for renovations or private mail delivery 4C horizontal mailboxes are made from heavy duty materials like aluminum and steel to meet USPS regulations.

  • Rear-Loading Mailboxes: More secure than front-loading mailboxes these are great for private mail distribution with access to a separate secure room.

  • Horizontal Mailboxes: Prevent mail theft with these mailboxes for postal and private delivery with compatible accessories like shelters and key keepers.

  • Commercial Apartment Mailboxes: Florence Corp.’s free standing and wall mounted options are for indoor and outdoor mail delivery for apartments, universities and other multi-tenant buildings.

Commercial Mailbox Materials

Why Aluminum is the Best: The Material for Commercial Mailboxes

  • Commercial mailboxes are subject to wear and tear, battling the elements and heavy use. Choosing the right material is key to their longevity and performance. While there are many materials to choose from, aluminum stands out as the best for commercial mailboxes with an unbeatable combination of benefits:

  • Durability: Aluminum mailboxes are strong and resilient. They can withstand heavy use, harsh weather and vandalism. That means a longer life and lower maintenance costs than steel mailboxes which rust and corrode.

  • Lightweight: Aluminum is naturally lightweight making it easier to install and handle. Great for larger mailboxes or wall mounted installations.

  • Weather Resistance: Aluminum mailboxes naturally resist rust and corrosion with a protective oxide layer on the surface. Perfect for high humidity, rain or snow locations. Many manufacturers also offer powder coated finishes for added weather protection and a sleek look.

  • Low Maintenance: Aluminum mailboxes require minimal upkeep. The powder coating protects the surface and a occasional water rinse is all that’s needed to keep them looking good. That means lower maintenance costs over time.

  • Cost Effective: While the initial cost of an aluminum mailbox may be slightly higher than some other materials, its long life, low maintenance and durability makes it a cost effective investment in the long run.

  • Sustainable: Aluminum is a recyclable material making it an eco friendly choice. That aligns with the growing trend of sustainability in business.

USPS Approval and Compliance

Getting USPS approval before installing a commercial mailbox is important for several reasons:

  • Mail delivery: USPS approved mailboxes meet specific size, location and accessibility standards so mail carriers can get to the mailbox and mail can be delivered to tenants. Mailboxes not approved may mean the USPS will no longer deliver mail to your location.

  • Compliance: Installing non-approved mailboxes can result in fines or even the USPS removing the mailbox, disrupting mail delivery and causing inconvenience to residents or businesses. Contact your local post office before installation to ensure compliance and save time and money in the long run.

  • Security: USPS approved mailboxes have secure features like locking mechanisms and tamper resistant construction to prevent mail theft and protect sensitive information.

  • Compatibility: Approved mailboxes meet USPS standards for size and configuration so they are compatible with existing mail delivery infrastructure and won’t cause delays or complications.

  • Future proofing: Investing in USPS approved mailboxes ensures compliance with current regulations and protects your investment for the long term, avoiding issues during renovations or building upgrades.

  • In summary, getting USPS approval before installing a commercial mailbox is key to smooth mail delivery, compliance, security, compatibility and future proofing your investment.

FAQ

Who is responsible for a Commercial Mailbox?

The general rule is the person who installs the mailbox is responsible for maintenance and repairs. The USPS may share responsibility in some cases. Read more about Who is responsible for Commercial mailboxes.

Should I contact the USPS before installing a commercial mailbox?

Yes, yes. Before installing a new commercial mailbox for USPS delivery you must contact your local post office who will be able to give you the latest regulations. Installation without prior approval may mean the USPS will no longer deliver mail to your location.

What is the difference between a 4C and 4B mailbox?

USPS commercial mailbox requirements state that USPS standard 4C is the new commercial mailbox standard that supersedes USPS standard 4B. All new USPS approved commercial mailboxes must meet this new standard. You can still purchase 4B mailboxes but they require a special permit to be installed and can only be used for one-to-one replacements where the opening in the wall is the same size. *Always contact your local postmaster before making any changes to your mail delivery system, including replacements.
